Andrew M. Teitz

Andrew M. Teitz is a partner in the firm. He has been recognized by his peers for twenty years as one of the Best Lawyers in America® in the category of Land Use and Zoning Law by Woodward/White Inc. from 2007 through 2026, and also as Lawyer of the Year for many years in the Providence area for the category of Litigation – Land Use and Zoning.

He has been honored as one of the country’s Top Lawyers® by Corporate Counsel, and he has earned an AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell® which is the highest possible rating in both legal ability and ethical standards.

Andy has drafted state enabling legislation on zoning and land development and dozens of municipal land use ordinances. He has also been appointed as a Special Master by the Rhode Island Superior Court.

His firm currently represents seven municipalities in Rhode Island (Barrington, Bristol, East Greenwich, South Kingstown, Warwick, West Warwick, and West Greenwich,) as Town or City Solicitor. Andy also serves several other municipalities, community organizations, and state agencies for specific tasks, including Training, Historic Preservation Law, Litigation, Affordable Housing, Design Review and Smart Growth studies and ordinances.

Andy represents a wide range of private clients including real estate developers, Fortune100 corporations, universities, schools, churches, family-owned businesses, and individuals. He practices before town councils, zoning and planning boards, historic commissions, coastal zone agencies, and the like, throughout southern New England. He litigates cases in all Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and federal courts, and is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States.

Most recently, in July of 2026, he was one of the firm lawyers who succussfully represented a developer in Rhode Island Supreme Court regarding the Constitution’s Home Rule Amendment. See the press release here.

Andy is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Trinity College, in Hartford, Connecticut, and received his J.D. from Columbia Law School in New York, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone scholar. He is certified as a Professional Planner by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), and as a Certified Low Impact Development Master Designer by the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council.

Outside the office, Andy is a life-long sailor, and currently sails an old Catalina 30 that he co-owns, and OPB (other people’s boats). He is an automotive enthusiast and a 20-year member of the BMW Car Club of America.
